TWO prominent local charities are to significantly benefit from the Fibs for Phones campaign Charity Ball on August 22 next. The campaign, which saw clubs collect 500 mobile phones in order to receive a defibrillator and training, was a massive success with 54 defibrillators being distributed to clubs throughout the region. The Charity Ball is aimed at acknowledging the Trojan efforts of all the participating groups and money that was fundraised as part of the campaign will be given to two local charities on the night. Rock Rose House, who provide for the needs of people with cancer from their Castlebar base and the Mayo Women’s Support Service, who provide refuge and support for women who fall victim to domestic violence are this year’s beneficiaries. While the final figure hasn’t been arrived at yet, Brendan Chambers of C & C Cellular, whose is the man behind the Fibs for Phones campaign reveals it will be ‘substantial’. Compere on the night will be Mid West Radio presenter Tommy Marren. There will be spot prizes and an auction. Overheads on the night will be paid for by C & C Cellular with local businesses sponsoring spot prizes, meaning all the money raised on the night will go to the nominated charities. Tickets are available for the event in your local C&C Cellular store or free phone 1800 36 00 00. Sponsors wishing to participate or to donate goods for spot prizes or auction items can contact 098 25481.
