KILTIMAGH has been buzzing all week since news broke that a €775,957 Euro millions winning ticket had been sold in the local Post Office. This is the biggest lotto win ever in the Kiltimagh region and it has generated huge interest throughout the hinterland. Election talk was pushed to the margins in many quarters over the past few days as the main focus shifted to who may be the holder of the lucky ticket. Postmistress Marion Dunne recalls the moment she took the call from the lottery office. “It was around 9.30am last Monday (18). I thought the agent said that we had sold a €75,000 ticket. I took it up wrong. When I mentioned the figure to him again he said, ‘No, Marion, I said a €775,000 ticket.’ I was flabbergasted. “News of the win spread like wildfire around the area. There has been a huge amount of speculation with regards to the identity of the winner. Friday is our busiest day in the Post Office and we sell a lot of National Lottery and Euro Millions tickets on that day so we really don’t have an idea who holds the winning ticket.” The ticket was purchased on Friday, May 15 and was a Match 5 plus one lucky star. “It was filled out by hand and was not a quick pick. I can however confirm that someone rang the lottery office last Friday to say they had the winning ticket. It definitely has not been lost or gone missing in some pocket!” says Marion.
