What should go in to the Killala time capsule?

AS part of the ongoing redevelopment of Killala Town Park, Mayo County Council are going to bury a time capsule in the grounds of the park. The capsule, which measures 18” x 6” x 4.75”, is constructed from lead, and should be able to keep its contents intact until 2109, when residents of Killala will dig it up.
Local Fine Gael councillor, Jarlath Munnelly, enthusiastically described the project. “The redevelopment of the town park in Killala is going very well, and hopefully the new park will be appreciated by future generations. And it will be future generations who will open this capsule, in 2109. It will give a snapshot of what life in Killala was like when the park was built,” he explained.
Right now, the task is to select items to place in the time capsule, and Cllr Munnelly is looking for suggestions.
“The time capsule is very small, so it will not hold a lot. I am contacting the three primary schools in Killala parish, and other groups who want to have an input. But I would really appreciate the input of anyone in Killala, in terms of ideas, of what should go into the time capsule.”
Suggestions for items to be included at this stage range from photographs of the town to essays or stories from children in the schools, to recordings of interviews with elderly people living in the town, describing the Killala of their youth.
Suggestions or ideas should be sent to Jarlath Munnelly, who can be contacted at 087 9832932, or jmunnelly@cllr.mayococo.ie.
