THE opening of the much-anticipated €3.7 million state-of-the-art Gateway Leisureplex in Belmullet will take place this Friday, creating up to 28 full-time jobs.
The new indoor entertainment venue, which is one of the most exiting projects of its kind ever undertaken in Mayo, will be one of Ireland’s largest and most interactive children’s activity areas. Located on the site of the former Web night club on the Bangor Road in Belmullet, the new centre includes a six-lane bowling area, a large arcade gaming room, a pool hall, a party room, restaurant and bar and a function room suitable for christenings, birthday parties and other celebrations. The leisureplex also boasts of being the only bowling alley in Ireland that provides Gaeilge as a language option on its scoring board.
The 26,000 square foot Gateway Leisureplex offers facilities for groups of all ages and the function and conference facilities will cater for private parties such as birthday parties, staff parties, school tours and other celebrations, and it also caters for all IT and media needs.
The new development, undertaken by local company Frank Brogan Ltd, will provide full-time employment for 28 people, as well as a number of part-time positions. Enda Brogan, Director of Frank Brogan Ltd, said the new leisureplex will offer a much-needed boost to the local economy.
“We hope this new facility will boost the local economy and benefit the people of Erris. Over 100 people were employed locally during the six-month construction phase and we will continue to support all the local schools and businesses in the area now,” he said.
Gateway director Annette Howard stated that the main goal and focus of the Gateway Leisureplex is to create a relaxing, enjoyable and safe environment where adults and children can enjoy themselves at the same time. “The entertainment centre will appeal to people of all ages. We have something to offer to everyone. We can cater for individuals and groups and while you are here you won’t get a drop of rain,” she said.
The Gateway Leisureplex has also launched a spectacular new website – www.gatewayplex.ie – with an array of information about all that the Gateway has to offer.
