Joan’s fitness seminar to focus mind and body on beating the recession blues

THE prevailing economic gloom has many people thinking negative thoughts but there will be no room for anything of the sort in the Mill Times Hotel in Westport next week when local fitness guru, Joan Geraghty (pictured), hosts a fitness seminar, titled ‘Get fit, think positive, and beat the recession’. Joan, who writes the Wellbeing pages in The Mayo News, and recently enjoyed great success with her book, ‘Anyone can run’, has also recently launched an online motivational fitness magazine at www.fitnessjunkie.ie. She hopes the seminar will help people add a fitness dimension to their every day activities. “A lot of people at the moment want to think positive but feel surrounded by negativity because of the recession but I hope anyone who attends the seminar will find ways of overcoming this obstacle.” Joan has lined up a host of impressive speakers including motivational speaker and entrepreneur, Pat Slattery, from Moyross in Limerick, who famously turned his life around to become a hugely successful and inspiring business man; Personal Trainer and Life Coach, Paul O’Brien, who explains why being fit helps gives you an edge in life, building up energy supplies and keeping you going much longer than the competition; Fiona Hoban, counsellor and hypnotherapist and Charlie Lambert of the Mayo Sports Partnership will give a practical talk on the myriad community-based sports and physical activity options now available to everybody, young and old, throughout the county. Joan added that attendees at the seminar should expect some interactive demonstrations between speakers and the audience, ‘just to give you a real taste of how good it feels to get active’. There will also be a trade stand display from 6pm in the Mill Times with those involved in the fields of business, fitness, health, nutrition, wellbeing and positive living showcasing their products and services. “One special treat lined up is the ‘Therassage Bed’, a heavy duty leather electronic massage couch that gives a powerful full-body massage at the touch of a button. Master franchisee, Tomas Ronan, who is travelling down from Dublin especially for the occasion, is offering free 15-minute sessions on the bed on a first-come-first-serve basis. “Anyone interested should come prepared for a fun evening with lots of advice and a bit of wacky humour thrown in. Be sure to bring pen and paper too. You never know what gem of information you may hear that could make all the difference to your future success.” The trade display starts at 6pm and the seminar gets under way at 7pm on Thursday next, March 12 in the Mill Times Hotel on Mill Street in Westport. Further information is available on www.fitnessjunkie.ie or call Joan on 087 2485167.
