Ticket sales for the Mayo News/O’Neills Club Stars Charity Banquet have increased dramatically since the 30 award nominees were revealed this week. The banquet – which is being organised in association with AIB – goes ahead on Friday, November 24 at Breaffy House Hotel with all proceeds being donated to the Mayo Cancer Support Association and the West of Ireland Alzheimer Foundation. On the night, the Club Stars Team of the Year will be announced with the Manager of the Year and the Player of the Year awards also being presented. County champions, Crossmolina, have six players nominated with the Nallen brothers, Tom and James, Peadar Gardiner, Ciaran McDonald, Joe Keane and Brian Benson all in contention. Beaten finalists Ballaghaderreen have eight players in the frame with Ollie Flanagan, Stephen Drake, Gary Conway, Barry Kelly, James Kilcullen, Derek Moran, Andy Moran and Barry Regan all nominated. County semi-finalists Knockmore have John Brogan and Aidan Kilcoyne in contention for an award while Kiltane duo Shane Lindsay and John Scanlon have also been shortlisted. Ballina Stephenites are represented by Kenny Golden, Eanna Casey and Pat Harte with the Mortimer brothers, Kenneth and Conor, flying the Shrule/Glencorrib flag. The five Intermediate ‘wild cards’ that have been singled out by the judging panel are Tourmakeady’s Brian Heneghan and David Prendergast, Parke’s Simon Cloherty, Cill Chomain defender Alan Noone, and Ballintubber’s Alan Dillon. Claremorris’ flying forward Mickey Mullins, Burrishoole defender Alan Moran complete the 30 players that will be in attendance on the night. Tickets (which cost €50) for the Charity Banquet are now on sale from The Mayo News office on 098 25311 or by e-mailing clubstars@mayonews.ie There will be a four course meal, live entertainment with Ice On Fire, and special guests include John O’Mahony, John Maughan, Peter Ford, Pat Holmes, Noel Connelly, Michéal Collins and Salthill-Knocknacarra’s All-Ireland winning captain, Maurice Sheridan.
