WITH severe wintry weather forecast in coming days, Gardaí are warning motorists in Mayo that they need to take extra care when on the county’s roads.

WITH severe wintry weather forecast in coming days, Gardaí are warning motorists in Mayo that they need to take extra care when on the county’s roads. Yesterday morning (Monday), there was a collision between a jeep and an articulated lorry at Shandrum on the main Westport to Newport Road, with Gardaí believing that ice played a major role in the incident.
A Garda spokesperson said that with a spell of cold weather and even snow promised this week, people need to be extremely cautious when taking to the roads. He also stated that only essential travel should be undertaken if the heavy snowfall that is promised elsewhere in the country finds its way west.
