Two people were rescued by the emergency services from Carramore Lake in Erris on Sunday.
Fine weather water warning after rescue
Erris TWO people were rescued by the emergency services from Carramore Lake in Erris on Sunday evening after they got into difficulty after falling from their jet-ski. The incident took place just before 7.30pm on Sunday evening when the male and female, who are in their twenties and from the locality, had been out in the water and fell from their jet-ski. Luckily, the incident was noticed by a person along the shore who raised the alarm. The civilian rowed out to where the two people were located and took them out of the water. Both were wearing lifejackets. The RNLI, the Sligo helicopter and the Gardaí from Belmullet also attended the scene. The female was removed to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar for treatment, but was later released. The male was treated at the scene but had no injuries. Gardaí in Belmullet said the incident highlighted the importance of wearing safety equipment when out on the water and authorities warned people who are taking to the water in the fine weather to take care and wear proper clothing appropriate to the water. Last week, a seminar discussing the importance of water safety for the western region took place in Rosmuc. The seminar was organised by Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) and discussed the importance of Personal Flotation Devices and lifejackets, and provided information on their correct use and maintenance. The seminar also demonstrated the correct use of Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons and addressed any confusion about their actual use.
