Woman found unresponsive close to N5 in Islandeady

GARDAÍ have confirmed that there was nothing suspicious about the discovery of an unconscious woman found on the side of the road in Islandeady over the weekend.
The woman, aged in her 50s, was found unresponsive by a passing motorist close to the N5 at Cloggernagh, Islandeady at approximately 4am on Sunday, October 16. She was brought to Mayo University Hospital where she was treated for injuries which at the time were described as ‘unexplained’.
It was initially suspected that the woman may have been a victim of a hit and run but following an initial investigation, a Garda spokesperson told The Mayo News that they are not treating the matter as suspicious and the cause of her fall is being deemed ‘accidental’.
The woman was in a critical condition on her arrival to hospital and was suffering from affects of the cold but the Garda spokesperson said her condition has improved and she is recovering in hospital.
The Garda spokesperson also said that the woman was very fortunate to have been found when she was, as the situation could have been a lot worse for her had she remained exposed to the elements for longer.
It is understood the woman was from the local area and Garda wished to thank all the people who helped in their investigation.
