Labour convention

The Labour Party will choose a Westport candidate for the 2009 local elections on Tuesday.
Labour selection convention

DEPUTY Pat Rabbitte, the Labour Party’s Spokesman on Justice, will chair a Selection Convention in Westport this evening (Tuesday) in the Wyatt Hotel, Westport, at 8pm.  The convention will select the Labour Party’s candidate in Westport for the Local Elections 2009.
Westport Branch Chairman, Mr Sean Sammon said that ‘all the friends and supporters of the Labour Party in Mayo are invited to attend the proceedings’.
Deputy Rabbitte will also address the meeting on the issues of anti-social behaviour, crime and policing. 
Pat Rabbitte was born in 1949 near Claremorris and brought up in Woodstock, Ballindine. Educated locally at St Colman’s College, Claremorris, he emigrated for a time to Britain to find employment. He returned shortly afterwards to attend University College Galway.
