Rural success will transform Sinn Féin – Conway-Walsh

Sinn Féin’s western-seaboard breakthrough means the party now has a strong mandate for rural Ireland, says Conway-Walsh

The success of Sinn Féin in electing TDs in rural Ireland will transform the party’s approach to rural Ireland.
That’s according to newly elected Sinn Féin TD for Mayo Rose Conway-Walsh, who said their success along the west coast, in particular, was key.
Sinn Féin elected two TDs in Donegal, one in Sligo-Leitrim, Conway-Walsh in Mayo, Mairéad Farrell in Galway West, Violet-Anne Wynne in Clare and Pa Daly in Kerry, along with big gains in other parts of Connacht and Ulster.
“What’s very significant is the opening up of the western seaboard for us. We haven’t been a party that have been too represented on the western seaboard before now. Now we have a mandate for rural Ireland and as a party we have to put rural Ireland front and centre of Government.
“Our breakthrough in rural Ireland is significant. People have placed their trust in me and in Sinn Féin to deliver. I appreciate that trust and I will be working very hard to ensure the trust is translated into tangible things that will make a difference in people’s lives in terms of health and housing and agriculture,” she said.
