N17 crash claims the life of a motorist in his 30s

AN accident on the N17 at Carrownurlaur, Ballindine, claimed the life of a motorist at the weekend. A car and a van were involved in the collision which happened just a few hundred yards on the Milltown side of the Mayo-Galway border between 1am and 2am on Sunday night/Monday morning.
It is understood that the man who died was from Latvia and was in his 30s. The driver of the van belonging to a well known Mayo business firm was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Road diversions were in place up until around 6pm on Monday evening with traffic being rerouted through Irishtown and Dunmore.
Gardaí in Tuam are appealing to any drivers who may have been on the N17 and who have dash cam footage to contact them on 093 70840.
