BALLINROBE will return to its historic roots next month for the first ever Ballinrobe Heritage Iron and Craft Fair.
Master iron craftsmen and blacksmiths will set up shop in Ballinrobe for the festival which will take place from October 12 to October 14 next. At locations including Ballinrobe Library, the weekend will be a chance for people to get a glimpse into the unique age old craft. Seeking a venue for their annual AGM, Mayo County Council chose Ballinrobe to host the incredibly talented blacksmiths who will display their wares on the library grounds, the grounds of the parish centre and Main Street.
The festival will encompass a look at times past, Ballinrobe as a market town and music throughout the weekend.
The weekend will also include showcases from local artisan craft and food producers.
Heritage Officer with Mayo County Council, Deirdre Cunningham will be facilitating meetings in relation to the upcoming festival and is encouraging all local organisations and businesses to get involved.
Speaking following last week’s meeting, Ballinrobe Festival chairperson, Monica Horan said it was ‘very positive’ to see Mayo County Council choose the town as the location to host such an event.
“Ballinrobe is really kicking on and there is just so much positivity around the area following the summer, from sport, entertainment and plans in place already for next year’s summer festival, the town is an exciting place to be in right now.”
