Biker flown to Galway after crashing into a dangerous bridge outside Partry

A MOTORCYCLIST is recovering from injuries sustained after his vehicle crashed into a bridge outside Partry at the weekend.
The 22-year-old Polish native was airlifted from the scene on the Killawala to Partry road on Saturday evening, after he crashed into Derin Bridge at 4pm. A notably dangerous bridge, another motorcyclist previously lost his life at the narrow bridge in 2007.
The motorcyclist who lives in Loughrea, Co Galway was thrown from the vehicle into a field when the motorcycle collided with the bridge. The driver suffered damage to his kneecap and shoulder and is making a recovery at University Hospital Galway. A fire brigade unit and ambulance attended the scene and the road was closed for a time to allow a technical examination. The road reopened at approximately 6pm.
