NEWLY-MARRIED royal couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not honeymooning at Ashford Castle in Cong.
Despite intense speculation in recent days — and some news sites seeming to confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are having a ‘mini moon’ at the five-star Ashford Castle Estate in south Mayo — The Mayo News can confirm that the royals are not staying at the world-famous hotel.
Rumours that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were in the area abounded in Cong village —made famous by 1952 film ‘The Quiet Man’ — after security at the Estate’s access points was stepped up on Sunday last.
Access was denied to the grounds on all access points with locals and visitors being told that the grounds were ‘off limits’ for four days.
Though it had been hinted that the Duke and his new wife, the former ‘Suits’ actress, might visit Ireland on a late honeymoon trip, The Mayo News has learned that Ashford Castle are not hosting the royals this week.
However, the 83-room hotel is booked out for an exclusive ‘corporate’ event.
