THE funeral arrangements have been announced for the 51-year-old man who died after the car which he was driving crashed into a stationary trailer in the village of Tiernaur on Wednesday morning.
Brian Farren, of Roskeen and Castlebar Street, Newport, was the popular head chef at well-known bar and restaurant Nevin’s Newfield Inn in Tiernaur. He had been on his way to work and travelling on the N59 Newport to Mulranny road when his Peugeot 308 vehicle was in collision with a large truck trailer, which was parked on the side of the road. The crash occurred on a straight stretch of road shortly before 9am on Wednesday morning.
A postmortem took place at Mayo University Hospital, and an inquest will take place at a date yet to be determined.
John Nevin, proprietor of Nevin’s Newfield Inn, said his wife, Ann, and all of their staff, and indeed the wider communities of Tiernaur and Newport, were numb with shock since the news broke of Brian’s sudden passing.
“We really are shocked beyond belief. Brian has been a member of our staff for eight years, and was head chef for the last two, and he had a great relationship with everyone who works in Nevins. We are all desperately sad and our hearts go out to his children, parents and all his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by us all,” said Mr Nevin.
Mr Farren was a native of Dalkey in Co Dublin. He is survived by his children Anthony and Rianach and was the beloved son of Monica and Christy Farren, and loving brother of Joanne and Gillian. He will also be fondly remembered by his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a wide circle of friends in Dublin and Mayo.
His remains will repose at St Dominic’s Funeral Home, Newport, this evening, Friday, from 6pm until 8pm, with a funeral service on Saturday morning at 10am in Newport Church. He will be laid to rest on Monday in Shanganagh Cemetery in Dublin following a funeral service in the Church of the Assumption, Castle Street, Dalkey, at 10am.
