Man in his 50s dies in Tiernaur road crash

UPDATE The deceased was the sole occupant of a car that hit a stationary trailer

Gardaí in Westport are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N59 main Mulranny to Newport Road, at Tiernaur, at approximately 9am this morning. 
A male driver, in his 50s and only occupant of a car, was fatally injured when the car he was driving struck a stationary trailer. The local coroner has been notified.
The man, a Dublin native, works locally and is well-known in the area. His name will not be released until all next of kin have been notified.
The road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by the Garda forensic collision investigators. Local diversions are in place and will remain so for a number of hours.
Investigations are ongoing and An Garda SíochΡna are appealing for witnesses to contact Westport Garda Station 098 50230, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
