A SILO containing cement collapsed onto The Neale Road in Ballinrobe on Thursday night last. The incident occurred at the construction site of the town’s new Aldi store.
The tank, located at the front of the construction site, collapsed onto the road at approximately 11pm on Thursday night last, however, nobody was injured. There was no passing traffic at the time and the tank knocked part of the stone wall at the front of the site. It is understood the tank had been filled earlier that day.
Speaking to The Mayo News yesterday (Monday), Fianna FΡil councillor Damien Ryan, said there was ‘minimum disruption to traffic’ but said it was ‘extremely fortunate it didn’t cause a serious accident to a passing car’.
Working throughout the night employees from Stewarts Construction, who are building the store, managed to pull the Silo back onto the site.
