Safe passage soon at Tooreen junction?

A crossroads near Tooreen, which has been the scene of several accidents over the years, is back in the news again. The long-running saga to improve safety at the dangerous junction may be coming to an end at last.
Mayo County Council has completed a deal with a local farmer regarding the acquisition of land on the approach road to Cappagh junction. Now, local councillor, John Cribbin, (pictured) has asked the Council to request the National Roads Authority ((NRA) to provide the necessary funding to eliminate the dangerous junction.
“Lack of visibility approaching this junction has led to a series of accidents at Cappagh down through the years. This matter has been raised many times and it is an ongoing source of worry for people in the area.
“In order to ensure public safety, I am now calling on Mayo County Council to ask the NRA to make provisions for funding in the 2008 budget to eliminate this black spot. It is a development that will be greatly welcomed by the people of Tooreen and all who use the roads in the area,” said Cllr Cribbin.
