GARDAÍ investigating the disappearance of Sandra Collins have called for people with information to come forward following a new development.
Patrick Collins, brother of Sandra Collins, who disappeared in December 2000, revealed that he received an anonymous letter, with the writer stating they knew where her body was buried. Patrick told The Irish Daily Star that he hoped the letter would help find her sister.
Twenty-eight-year-old Sandra Collins went missing from Killala on the night of December 4, 2000 and despite a lengthy search of the area, she has never been seen since. Her family believe that she was killed but despite an extensive investigation, her body was never recovered.
Martin Earley of Banagher, Carrowmore-Lacken was charged with her murder but was acquitted by direction of the judge following an 18 day trial in 2014.
In last Thursday’s publication, Patrick Collins said the letter received is anonymous and the gardaí are treating the information very seriously. The writer claims they knew Sandra, and apologised for not coming forward with the information sooner.
Gardaí in Ballina said the investigation into Sandra Collins’s disappearance is still an ongoing investigation and appealed for individuals who may have any information to come forward and assist them with their enquiries. Superintendent Joe Doherty said any new information will be treated with the strictest confidence and respect.
Anyone with any information on the disappearance of Sandra Collins is asked to contact Ballina Garda Station on 096 20560 or contact the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
