Anger over Salthill parking fines

Some Mayo fans leaving Pearse Stadium had more bad luck when up to 67 cars were issued with parking fines

Some Mayo fans disgruntled leaving Pearse Stadium after Galway’s triumph on Sunday had insult added to injury with parking fines issued for parking on Taylor’s Hill.
One of them was Charlestown man Ronan Kenny, who said he counted 67 vehicles in the area who had a slip of paper on their windscreens informing them they would be sent a fine for illegal parking.
Mr Kenny said no traffic cones were in place to indicate it was off limits for parking - something which is customary close to stadiums for big games. He also said there were no yellow lines on the side of the road to indicate no parking.
“The cars were in a line from the Ardillaun Hotel to the junction with Threadneedle Road. It’s the last thing you wanted after that game.
“The cars were not causing an obstruction and no common sense was used by those issuing the tickets, especially when you consider how difficult it is to get parking close to the stadium. It was like shooting fish in a barrel to issue those tickets” Mr Kenny told The Mayo News.
The game had an attendance of 22,046 and there were significant traffic hold-ups before and after the game.
