Vintage car stolen and burned out

Vintage car due to form part of the Castlebar St Patrick’s Day parade stolen in Castlebar and burned out in Ballinrobe

A vintage car which was due to be part of the Castlebar St Patrick’s Day parade was stolen in Castlebar and burned out in Ballinrobe at the weekend.
The Citroen 2CV 1987 was the property of Edward Conway Limited garage and was painted in the Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club colours and crest.
It was parked on Station Road on Castlebar on Thursday night in preparation for the parade the following day. However, when that parade was postponed at the eleventh hour, the car remained in situ and was stolen sometime after 11pm on Friday night.
It was discovered burned out close to the Western Pride Holiday Homes off the Creagh Road in Ballinrobe at 6.30am on Saturday.
Gardaí are following a line of inquiry in relation to the theft but are asking anyone with any information to contact Castlebar Garda Station on 094 9038200.
In an appeal for information on their Facebook page, Edward Conway Limited said their annual outing in the Castlebar parade will not happen again following this incident.
“This was a family car, a Castlebar Mitchels car, a much-loved vintage car that will be missed terribly,” they said.
