Young woman released from Garda custody this morning without charge
A woman in her early 20s was arrested yesterday (Wednesday) as the Gardaí continue their investigation into the death of a four-month-old baby on New Year’s Day. The young woman was detained at Claremorris Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. She was released from Garda custody this morning, and a file is now being prepared for the DPP.
An infant boy was treated by paramedics at his home in Bohola on December 28 before being brought to Mayo University Hospital. He was later transferred to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, but he was pronounced dead on January 1.
The State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, has carried out a postmortem and the Gardaí have been furnished with a preliminary report as part of the investigation. The results of the postmortem have not been released due to what the Gardaí say are ‘operational reasons’.
