There was emotional scenes over the weekend in Westport, and the villages of Aughagower and Killawalla, as the funeral took place of Shaun Audley, who lost his battle with cancer at the young age of 24.
Mr Audley was buried in Killawalla Cemetery on Sunday afternoon after Requiem Mass had taken place in St Patrick’s Church in Aughagower. Shaun had reposed in McGing’s Funeral Home in Westport on Saturday evening, where massive crowds queued silently to pay their respects to his family.
Shaun, who lived with his family in Cushin, was the son of his heartbroken parents, John, a native of Limerick, and Fiona (nee Feehan), who is a native of Killawalla. He is also survived by his brother, Gary; two grandmothers, Mary Audley and Delia Feehan; uncles, aunts, relatives, neighbours and many devoted friends.
The esteem in which Shaun was held was very much evident as huge crowds were in attendance at the ceremonies on Saturday and Sunday. To the fore were his classmates from his days in Knockrooskey NS and Rice College in Westport.
Shaun lived life to the full during his 24 years, and he was remembered during Sunday’s ceremony with music by his favourite artist Tupac when the song ‘Life Goes On’ was played.
Shaun was also well-known for his love of both Liverpool and Celtic Football Clubs, and Liverpool’s anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ was also played. The colours of both clubs were also draped on Shaun’s coffin. May he rest in peace. (Full obituary later).
