A TEENAGE pedestrian remains in a critical condition in the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin after she was injured in a road traffic incident in Castlebar last week.
Fifteen-year-old Lucy Tuohy received serious head injuries when she was struck by a car on the Pontoon Road, Castlebar, on Monday evening, November 28, at approximately 7.25pm. The incident occurred at the junction of Sion Hill and Rossmor, which is close to Lucy’s home.
The teenager was taken to Mayo University Hospital before she was transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where she is still in a critical condition.
Lucy is a student in St Joseph’s Secondary School in Castlebar, and over the weekend the Castlebar community rallied round in support of her parents, Cormac and Collette. On Saturday morning, her classmates along with Castlebar Mitchels Ladies Club and other clubs took part in a 5k run, jog and walk around Lough Lannagh.
Lucy has taken part in this event as part of the Mitchels Ladies group, and a large number of people showed up on Saturday as a mark of solidarity with the Tuohy family. Donations were also collected to help the family.
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident last Monday or events leading up to the accident is asked to contact Castlebar Garda Station on 094 9038200.
