The only survivor of the recent Irishtown tragedy remains ‘very ill’ despite being transferred back from Beaumont Hospital in Dublin to University College Hospital in Galway.
Paul Fitzgerald (37) received serious head injuries at his family home in Knockadoon, Irishtown, on November 1 last. His parents Tom and Kitty were found dead at the scene in an apparent murder-suicide, which shocked the close-knit community along the Mayo/Galway border. Paul Fitzgerald was airlifted to Beaumont Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed to The Mayo News that Mr Fitzgerald was transferred to Galway last week but said that he remains ‘very ill’ and that the Gardaí have yet to speak to him regarding their investigation. The spokesperson also said that they will be waiting on the guidance of the medical consultants before deciding to speak to Mr Fitzgerald.
