Three players who caught our eye in the Mayo Intermediate Championship final

FOOTBALL Ger Flanagan sings the praises of Westport trio Fionn McDonagh, Lewis Cawley and Kevin Keane.

Analysis
Ger Flanagan

Fionn McDonagh
RECEIVED the official man of the match award from Mayo GAA Board PRO Paul Cunnane after the game … and for very good reason. Never seemed to get tired and his point-taking was to be admired. Kicked three very good frees and got two points from play that came about through his hard work and chase-down-everything style.
Looked to create something at every possession whether it was through direct running or elegant foot-passing. And, like his cousin Cian Costello, ended the night on the winning side.

Lewis Cawley
WESTPORT’S top scorer in this year’s championship saw his tally rise to 1-16 after a blistering first-half performance that yielded three points.
Not as effective as he would have liked in the second half, but always showed for the ball out in front. His quick feet, combined with some blinding pace, made him a nightmare for the Kiltimagh back line.
Possesses incredible accuracy and looks very comfortable off either foot when faced with a decent scoring opportunity. Westport will need him to continue firing as they head into the provincial championship.

Kevin Keane
A ROCK solid display from the county man meant little to nothing managed to breach the Westport full-back line. Confident and composed when on the ball, he broke up Kiltimagh attacks and looked a level above throughout.
Will not be toppled in the physical aspect of the game even when facing a man as big and imposing as TJ Byrne.
Did all the simple things brilliantly and gave a performance that we would only expect from a man with his experience.
