A BOX of puppies was discovered by a member of the public in Ballinrobe on Wednesday.
The cardboard box containing seven pups who were just a week old were found by a woman near a lake in the town. Their owner has as of yet, not been found.
Volunteers at Mayo SPCA have now taken the puppies into their care and are bottle feeding them. According to Eavan Caulfield of Mayo SPCA, the puppies are doing well since they were discovered.
“We had to separate them into two groups. They are doing very well. We will get them to full health, vaccinate them, worm them and then neuter when they are old enough. They will then hopefully be homed all going well,” said Ms Caulfield.
This is the second lot of pups in the last few months that the voluntary organisation has received by a member of the public.
Those puppies have only recently been homed, they were dumped in a bog and had matted coats, were worm infested and starving.
The organisation has been inundated with dogs in need of care and attention over the last number of months and are constantly on the look out for good homes to take in a rescued dog.
They are currently trying to rehome Fawn, a dog that has been through more of its fair share of traumas. Fawn was found in Knock, emaciated and had been shot in the face.
Fawn has been brought back to full health but she is blind. Fawn is now ready for rehoming.
