Last year was a busy one for Canon Joseph Cooney and his team, and their hard work sure paid off with an impressive five marriages taking place last year.
The oldest dating agency in Ireland which was founded in 1968, released it’s annual report this month showing an impressive with three engagements also recorded for last year.
The agency has helped in bringing about 930 marriages to date. Last year the bureau saw 30 people from Mayo avail of its service, a sharp increase of 18 on the previous year. Neighbouring Galway was the next county with the most enquiries, with 25 registered.
People as far as Scotland and the UK also availed of the service last year with two enquiries from each place. The service involves men and women sending in questionnaires at which point Canon Cooney and his team then try to match them based on location, education level, and even height. The applicants then receive three matches suggested by the team with the applicant accepting one and phone numbers are then exchanged, but no photographs are exchanged. Applications for introductions are valid for one year at a cost of €170.
