Forty days of Smarter Travel

People are being asked to give up their cars for lent and opt for Smarter Travel options.

WESTPORT Smarter Travel is calling on people to take up a healthy Lenten challenge.
The organisation is asking for people to ditch the car for Lent and choose Smarter Travel alternatives like walking, cycling, carpooling, ‘Park n’ Stride’ or public transport.
The benefits to those who take part include feeling healthier, the economic and environmental benefits and you could also win a day’s activities with Clare Island Adventures, tickets for a Bike Buffet or a team dinner in a Westport restaurant.
Team members will try to choose Smarter Travel modes of transport as often as they can each week and every Monday the team captain must send on the number of Smarter Travel journeys completed by the team to Westport Smarter Travel.
You can register to take part by finding yourself a team of four to six people
(it could be family, friends, work colleagues), choose a name, nominate a team captain and register your interest by emailing westportsmartertravel@gmail.com.
Registered teams will receive an online information pack including record book, smarter travel information and terms and conditions.
Results will be posted online and in The Mayo News weekly. The team that has made the most Smarter Travel journeys over the seven weeks of Lent will claim the
title of Westport’s Smartest Travel Team and will win the grand prize.
