A number of walks will take place across the country on Saturday next, January 9 with Mayo walks taking place in Ballina, Ballyhaunis, Belmullet, Castlebar, Claremorris and Westport.
Is getting more physically active part of your new year resolutions? Don’t know where to start and need some support? The new series of RTÉ’s Operation Transformation is once again joining forces locally with Mayo Sports Partnership to encourage people to become more physically active in 2016. A number of walks will take place across the country on Saturday next, January 9 with Mayo walks taking place in Ballina, Ballyhaunis, Belmullet, Castlebar, Claremorris and Westport.
This year Erris man John Conmy is one of the 5 Operation Transformation leaders the general public will be following on RTÉ throughout the series. So why not get out and support John in all the walks across the county.
The walks, either 3km or 5km in length will be led by suitable instructors who will be on hand to guide participants through the walk and also to give advice about follow on programmes etc.
“Operation Transformation 2015 was a great success providing people with great motivation to get more physically active. After the Christmas people are thinking of doing some exercise for whatever goal they may have and don’t know where to start. Through the Operation Transformation Mayo campaign we hope to be able to provide support for people to become involved,“ said Charlie Lambert, Mayo Sports Partnership Co-ordinator
Event co-ordinators Mayo Sports Partnership and local organisers such as Ballina Athletic Club, Ballyhaunis Sports Network, Erris Community Health Forum and Westport Leisure Park are encouraging people of all age groups to turn out on the day.
In all the events there is no cost involved and some light refreshments etc will be available afterwards. Participants are asked to wear loose clothing and to bring some water. Further information on Operation Transformation can be viewed at www.rte.ie/ot/
