COUNCILLORS have been assured that streets in Ballina will be ‘well lit’ for the Christmas period.
The meeting was told that an allocation of €35,000 was available for lighting for the entire Ballina Municipal District with €18,000 needed for Ballina town.
Cllr John O’Hara (FG) asked if O’Rahilly Street in the town would be brought up to the same lighting standard as Pearce Street was last year.
Senior Architect Kevin Keegan assured him that both O’Rahilly Street and Tone Street would be ‘well lit’ this year.
Cllr Neil Cruise (FG) welcomed the figure of €18,000 for Ballina, adding that it would be a ‘great welcome home for people’ this Christmas.
Fianna FΡil’s Cllr Michael Smyth said the remaining €17,000 should be allocated to other towns within the district based on population.
“It’s not going to cover the cost but it will lessen the burden on businesses,” said Smyth.
