Over 1, 500 people attended Career Options Event 2015 at Davitt College, Castlebar on Saturday last.
Forty exhibitors from across the country and across the waters set up stands at the sportshall at Davitt College, among them, the prestigious Harvard University.
Universities, institutes of technology, training colleges and centres of further education offered advice to those in attendance on courses available ahead of UCAS and CAO application deadlines.
Commenting on the day Principal of Davitt College Bernie Rowland said there was a ‘huge turnout’ for the event and attributed the increase in attendance on the last two years with the change of date.
“This is our third year running the event and this is the first year we changed it from January as it was too late for people to apply to the UK colleges. We’ve received very positive feedback. Some colleges have already emailed about coming next year. Having an event like this is hugely beneficial for students, having colleges in one place, not missing a day at school and not having to travel far and having the expense of that,” said Ms Rowland, who added that those in attendance ranged from Transition Year students, to older people looking to return to education.
“The event addressed the needs of a broad range of people. It appealed to all ages, One women wanted information about flower arranging and came away with what she needed. It’s a hugely informative event,” she concluded.
