THE search for missing fisherman Daniel Doherty is continuing in waters off the Erris coast, with Gardaí confirming they have now extended the search as far out as waters off Downpatrick Head and further east.
Supt Tony Healy told The Mayo News this afternoon that his extended team of Garda divers and the Garda helicopter are continuing to orchestrate the search with the help of the Civil Defence and the Coastguard.
“Our team were out again shortly after 5am this morning, and the search will continue for as long is possible this evening (Wednesday),” said Supt Healy.
Mr Doherty (23), has been missing since Friday evening last, when his boat was found unoccupied off Benwee Head, which is close to the village of Carrowteigue.
Members of the local fishing community have also been assisting the Gardaí in their search for the popular local man.
Mr Doherty had been out fishing with lobster pots on his 30-foot half decker boat, the ‘Carra Rose’, on Friday. The boat was found on its side, shortly before 9pm last Friday.
