THE Aghamore set dancers, who won the All-Ireland Scór na nÓg in City West, Dublin, last February, have been invited to perform live in Croke Park on next Sunday, August 30. They will entertain the sell-out crowd with a special display during the interval of the Tipperary v Kildare minor semi-final, the curtain raiser to the senior clash between Mayo and Dublin.
GrΡinne (Kelly) Freyne from Knock is the tutor guided them to All-Ireland honours some months ago. Two of her sons, SeΡn and James, are members of the team and the others are Thomas Doherty, David Hession, Rachel Lyons, Orna Hession, Eleanor Harrison and Aine Duffy. She is thrilled that they have been chosen for this special honour on a day when thousands of Mayo people will be at the GAA headquarters.
Massive occasion
Aghamore Club PRO, Pauline Flatley from Knock, whose husband Tom once played inter-county senior football with Tipperary (who are involved in the minor semi-final) has strong connections with both Mayo and Dublin. She is an aunt of former Dublin star Ray Cosgrove who is also a selector with the current Wicklow senior team and she is a sister of former Mayo player Adrian Durkin.
“This is a massive occasion for all eight members of the Aghamore Set Dancing group. They are hugely excited about performing on the biggest Irish sporting stage of all. We are thrilled for GrΡinne and her team and we know they will be wonderful ambassadors for our club and county on Sunday,” says Pauline.
