An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe two viable Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the Moneen area of Castlebar yesterday afternoon (Thursday).
The Defence Forces deployed the Army Bomb Disposal Team in response to a request from An Garda SíochΡna after they were alerted to two suspect devices.
A cordon and road closures were put in place for public safety and a number of nearby buildings were evacuated.
The team arrived on scene yesterday afternoon, and the devices were made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion. They were taken away for further examination and were later confirmed as viable. Items of evidence will be handed over to the Gardaí to assist them with their investigation.
The wasteground where the items were found is located between the driving test centre at the side of An Sportlann and industrial premises. ?No arrests have been made, and the Gardaí are asking anyone with any information to contact them at Castlebar Garda Station on 094 9022222.
