A man who sustained a serious head injury in an assault in Ballina has been transferred to Beaumont Hospital.
Man sustains serious head injury after Ballina assault

A 26-year-old man has been transferred to Beaumont Hospital with serious head injuries following a serious assault in the early hours of yesterday (Monday) morning.
The assault took place at approximately 2am in the Bunree/Ardnaree area of Ballina. The male was brought to Mayo General Hospital but was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital.
A 37-year-old man has been arrested and was detained at Ballina Garda Station Under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or that was in the Bunree/Ardnaree area of the town between 1.30am and 2.05am on Monday morning.
