Ballina Town Council has urged that CCTV be installed at a proposed park at Quaignalecka.
Ballina Town Council ‘loud and clear’ on CCTV

THE outgoing councillors of Ballina Town Council welcomed the proposal for the construction of a park at Quignalecka at last week’s meeting but stipulated that CCTV should be installed at the park on its construction.
Reviewing submissions in relation to the construction of the Quay Neighbourhood Park, Town Architect Kevin Keegan told the council that if anti-social behaviour became a problem at the site, CCTV would be ‘considered’. Cllr Mark Winters (FG) seconded the proposal made by Peter Clarke (Ind), but said rather than leaving the installation of CCTV until after a possible problem occurred, the councillor suggested the CCTV be installed beforehand.
Agreeing with Cllr Winter’s view, Cllr Mary Kelly (Ind) said the project should be started on the ‘right foot’ and said a mobile CCTV unit should be put in place at the start.
Clle Willie Nolan (FF) said though there were fears from the public regarding the park becoming a location for anti-social behaviour, he was confident these fears would be overcome, adding that the park would be another legacy to the town.
“The council has spoke loud and clear. CCTV seems to be the over-riding issue,” concluded Kevin Keegan.
