Ballinrobe man arrested after nationwide manhunt
A Ballinrobe man who has been accused of roaming Ireland to rob post offices has been arrested by gardaí after a nationwide manhunt.
Arthur Boland, 35, has been charged with stealing €4,110 from a post office on Clanbrassil Street in Dundalk on February 25 last.
Gardaí arrested Boland after linking him to the robbery in Louth and after he was suspected of two other attempted thefts.
Boland was charged with attempted robberies at post offices on Merrion Row and Erne Street in Dublin on March 1 last and was brought to Pearse Street Garda Station on the same date. He made no reply to the first charge of attempted robbery in Dublin.
He was remanded in custody to Dublin District Court last week after his arrest for the three alleged robberies. Judge Michael Walsh adjourned the case after gardaí objected to bail.
In March 2009 Boland received two four month prison terms after he pleaded guilty to deceptively using charity sponsor cards to gain money. He was falsely collecting money for the National Council for the Blind of Ireland and the Friends of St Luke’s Hospital.
