Chinese pair arrested after €1.4m drugs bust in Swinford to be sentenced this week
Two Chinese nationals who were arrested after the seizure of a reported €1.4 million worth of drugs in Swinford last year will be sentenced tomorrow (Wednesday).
In what is believed to be the biggest ever cultivation factory found in Mayo, gardaí raided an industrial unit in Swinford on October 24 last where they found a reported €1.4 million worth of cannabis plants.
Two Chinese nationals, Xiao Fei Weng and Shi Dong He, were found to be living in the unit - Unit 16, Swinford Business Park, Newpark, Swinford.
Both men are charged on two counts - possession of drugs with the intent to supply and cultivation of a controlled drug. They appeared before Castlebar Circuit Court last Tuesday.
Counsel for both men said there would be no need for a Probation Report for either of them. The matter was put back by Judge Carmel Stewart to tomorrow, May 15, for sentencing. Both men were remanded in custody.
The raid in Swinford was carried out as part of a nationwide campaign, Operation Nitrogen, which saw a total of €5 million of cannabis plants found in four locations - Swinford, Ardee, Co Louth; Newbridge, Co Kildare; and Tramore, Co Waterford.
