JJ Burke car sales Ballinrobe was broken into last week with €10,000 in damage being reported
Ballinrobe car garage broken into for fourth time
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who might have any information regarding a break-in at JJ Burke Car Sales in Ballinrobe recently. The break-in, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, February 26, between 2am and 4am, saw seven men break into the premises by cutting through a perimeter fence. The men made away with three catalytic converters valued at €1,500 and extensive damage on other vehicles also took place. Speaking to The Mayo News about the latest attack on the family-owned business, Joseph Burke, Sales Representative at the showroom and garage, said the latest break-in was the fourth time the business has been targeted in the last six months. “This was probably the fourth time in about six months, but the worst damage was done this time. Along with three catalytic converters being taken, there was also damage to a marquee and damage to other cars as they attempted to take catalytic converters from other vehicles,” explained Mr Burke. Mr Burke said although the converters would retail at €1,500 from new, the robbers would be getting in the region of €200 to €350 for them at a recycling plant. “Recycling plants shouldn’t be taking in these new converters but the men could be going to people they know in Dublin to sell them on,” he said. Describing the gang as ‘brazen’. Mr Burke said damage in the region of €10,000 was done on Tuesday morning last.
