A further €500,000 has been allocated for the N5 project between Castlebar and Westport according to Minister of State Michael Ring. He welcomed the news in the aftermath of a meeting held last week with Fred Barry, the CEO if the National Roads Authority (NRA). This project still has to go before An Bord PleanΡla for consideration.
The junior minister at the Department of Tourism and Sport met NRA executives to discuss progress on key road projects in the west.
The projects discussed included the Gort-Tuam road, the Westport-Castlebar N5, the Strokestown-Tulsk N5, the Foxford N26 and the Tuam-Claremorris road.
The meeting heard that the Gort-Tuam road has a three-year construction period and is ready to proceed, once Stimulus Package funds are approved. A number of bad bends on the Strokestown-Tulsk N5  have been identified for work and allocated funding while the Foxford N26 project is in the process of redesign following the refusal of permission b,y An Bord PleanΡla.
“I am delighted that along with the €200,000 announced three weeks ago for the Westport-Castlebar N5 that further funding of €500,000 has now been announced to further progress such an important road  project,” Michael Ring said.
