TWO walkers who were stranded under cliffs near Killary Harbour were rescued in a joint operation by the Cleggan Coast Guard Unit and the Achill lifeboat.
The Cleggan CGU and the Achill RNLI lifeboat were both called out at 7.45pm on Sunday evening as a result of a 999 call from a member of the public reporting that two walkers were stranded in Killary Harbour under the cliffs. Visability was poor and there was a concern they would be stranded overnight.
The casualties were located by the Cleggan CGU who guided the Achill lifeboat to the scene and the casualties were picked up by a small inflatable dinghy and brought to Rosroe Pier. The two walkers were cold and wet but did not require any further medical assistance. This was the third time the Achill lifeboat was called out in 2013 and the second occasion for the Cleggan CGU.
