Storm Sandy slams US East Coast

Millions of people across the eastern US woke this morning (Tuesday) to scenes of havoc and destruction wrought by ‘super storm’ Sandy. The storm – which first made landfall last night in New Jersey – caused power cuts to massive swathes of the country’s most densely populated region, flooding New York’s subway system, causing fires from downed power lines and submerging streets.
An estimated 50 million people could be affected by the storm, with up to 1 million ordered to evacuate their homes.
