Judges to visit Mulranny for Pride of Place competition

The village of Mulranny will be putting its best foot forward this Thursday when the judges from the Pride of Place competition visit the west Mayo village and will be presented with what it has to offer.
The Mulranny community was nominated by Mayo County Council to participate in the Pride of Place competition under the Cultural Tourism category. A presentation by the Mulranny Tourism Group will be made to the judges of the competition this Thursday where they will be shown different aspects of the village and activities in it.
They will be introduced to the Mulloy Brothers and the Mulranny Pipe Band before being taken to various sites throughout the village including a short cycle on the Great Western Greenway.
SeΡn Carolan of Mulranny Tourism told The Mayo News that they were delighted to be nominated to participate in the competition and looked forward to showing the judges the beauty and uniqueness of the village.
“We do a lot of work in the village and this will be more publicity for Mulranny and it all helps. We launched a village design strategy to try to improve the village and obviously tourism is key for us. We are delighted with this opportunity to showcase the beauty and uniqueness of Mulranny and highlight the positive changes that have taken place over the last few years. I think the judges will be impressed with ‘Gift of Hands’ which is a volunteer group making handmade items which gets reinvested in tourism and is a great community project,” he said.
Pride of Place is an all-island competition which is directed towards recognising improvements by local communities to create civic pride in their area. The competition focus is on people coming together to shape, change and enjoy all that is good about their area. Last week Inish Turk was the winner in the Island Category.
The visit of the judges also coincides with Heritage Week and SeΡn feels the judges will be impressed with the itinerary for the week which includes talks on Mulranny Old Irish Goats, the Red Grouse and kite making.
