Radio and television presenter, Ryan Tubridy will be presented with the Freedom of Clifden and Connemara at a ceremony organised by the Connemara Chamber of Commerce this Saturday.
The Late Late Show presenter will be presented with the ‘Golden Key to Clifden and Connemara’ by the Chamber to show their appreciation and gratitude for the support he has given to Connemara and Clifden over the years.
Tubridy is a frequent visitor to the region and has aired three radio programmes from the area in recent years, one from Inishbofin, one from Leenane and one from Clifden.
“He is continually promoting and supporting the area as a great place to visit. The Connemara Chamber voted to do this, to show their appreciation and gratitude for all the support he has given to Connemara and Clifden over the years,” said Olive Brennan of the Connemara Chamber of Commerce.
The Freedom of Connemara will entitle Ryan to many things such as free anchorage rights for life on Buttermilk Lake, free grazing rights for his sheep on the commonage of Clifden, free car parking, free haircuts for life for himself and his grandchildren, free Roundstone turf, free potatoes from Dan O’Hara’s homestead.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 16 at 7pm in the Abbeyglen Castle Hotel, Clifden and invited guests will be treated to a champagne reception and canapés. There, Ryan will be presented with the golden key to Clifden and Connemara by the President of the Chamber of Commerce.
The ceremony will be followed by a trip around the town of Clifden by a horse and trap led by bagpipes.
“The parade will give the people of Clifden and Connemara their opportunity to express their welcome and appreciation for Ryan,” concluded Olive.
