Queen Elizabeth should be welcomed – Ring

Anton McNulty

Minister of State for Tourism Michael Ring has called on anticipated protests against Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Ireland next month to be carried out in a ‘decent and honourable manner’.
The Mayo TD said that Queen Elizabeth should be made welcome to Ireland, and he described comments by Socialist TD Joe Higgins for her to be asked to contribute towards her own accommodation as ‘a bit short-sighted’.
Mr Ring said the visit will be a wonderful opportunity for Irish tourism, as media outlets from all over the world prepare to cover the occasion. He added that the focus should be on making the most of the chance to capitalise on the publicity Ireland will get through the royal visit, and the visit of the US President Barack Obama.
