New Mayo boss James Horan has revealed his first FBD League selection
Mayo team to play Leitrim announced
Mike Finnerty
THE Mayo team to play Leitrim in the FBD Connacht League next Sunday has been announced — with six survivors from the side that lost to Longford in the All-Ireland SFc Qualifiers last June. James Horan has retained goalkeeper David Clarke, as well as defenders Ger Cafferkey, Trevor Howley and Chris Barrett, along with Barry Moran and Andy Moran in attack. There are plenty of newcomers getting a chance to impress too with Ballintubber duo Cathal Hallinan and Michael Nestor, Castlebar’s Richie Feeney, Tourmakeady’s Kevin Dolan and Crossmolina’s Brian Benson all named in the first XV. Meanwhile, Austin O’Malley starts at centre-forward (his first Mayo appearance in almost two years) with Aidan Campbell named at wing-forward after an inter-county absence of 29 months. Ballaghaderreen clubman, Andy Moran, has been named as captain for next Sunday’s game which throws-in at 2pm in Ballinamore.
Mayo D Clarke; C Hallinan, G Cafferkey, R Feeney; T Howley, M Nestor, C Barrett; R McGarrity, B Moran; A Campbell, A O’Malley, A Kilcoyne; K Dolan, A Moran (captain), B Benson.
