CLAREMORRIS Chamber of Commerce is pioneering the first free hop-on, hop-off bus service for weekend shoppers in the country. A 35-seat minibus will run twelve times a day between the McWilliam Park Hotel and the Lakeside Retail Park on the old Ballindine Road, stopping at seven points in between. The free bus service will be in operation every Saturday for the next three months until Christmas.
Chamber President Eugene Waldron is delighted with the initiative which aims to increase the numbers of people shopping in the town centre.
“”Claremorris Chamber is four-square behind this new service. We believe it will bring more business to the town and increase the number of people shopping in the centre of town. It’s good news for weekend tourists as well as for regular shoppers.
“A free bus service will support the small shops, which are the lifeblood of our community, and make the town centre much more convenient and accessible. It should also cut down traffic congestion in the run-up to Christmas. It’s a win-win idea for everyone concerned,” says Eugene.
The service, which runs on the half-hour and on the hour, will serve the McWilliam Park Hotel, Silverbridge Centre, Swimming Pool, Post Office, SuperValu, The Square, James Street and Lakeside Centre. Parking is free at the new railway station car park and the bus also stops there.
“For the first time, Claremorris has its own public transport link connecting all the key focal points in the town. Every focal point along the route is surrounded by businesses offering real choice and great value. In providing this free bus service, the Chamber is packaging the shopping experience of the whole town in a new way, making it even more convenient for shoppers,” says the Chamber President.
