A Ballina man is in with a chance of winning a staggering €15,000 for GAA in Mayo.
Thomas Harrison, from Ballina, has been named one of the final four in Super Valu’s ‘Ireland’s Most Dedicated GAA Fan’ competition and voters have just one day – today, Tuesday, August 17 - to help him win the competition and walk away with a fantastic prize for his county.
The prize includes €15,000 to support GAA in the winner’s local community and Thomas Harrison has pinpointed Ballina Stephenites Club and the Mayo County Development Squad as deserving recipients of some much-needed funding if he is successful. For their trouble the winner will also receive an amazing VIP package including accommodation for the All Ireland Final in September.
As part of the SuperValu sponsorship of this year’s GAA Football Championship, the retailer is on a quest to find the country’s most dedicated GAA fan and this round of voting sees the Ballina football fanatic join three others in the battle to be crowned winner. The finalists topped the votes from an original eight who went head to head to claim the coveted title.
Thomas Harrison was nominated for the competition by his girlfriend, Mary Barry. The Cork native says Thomas loves GAA even more than her! Thomas has brought Mary (a loyal Cork GAA fan herself) to countless Mayo GAA matches around the country. As a present Thomas even bought Mary a Mayo season ticket - two years in a row! A highlight for Thomas and Mary was the New York versus Mayo GAA football match in 2009 which they attended and met with all the Mayo team.
